RIFFMATIC
OR........HOW TO COUNT TO THREE
1. On the 6th of June 1975, the country went to the polls to vote in the first ever UK referendum. The question was "do you think the UK should stay in the European Community?". This was the first EU referendum. The main political parties supported remain although politicians on both the far left of Labour and the far right of the Tory party campaigned for a "leave" vote. The leave campaign was also supported by the Communist Party, the National Front and the TUC. In the event, the result was a overwhelming vote to remain.
2. On the 23rd of June 2016, the country went to the polls for a second time to vote in a referendum on whether to remain in or leave the EU. The result was as follows:-
Total number of eligible voters - 46,500,001 (100%)
Total number who voted leave - 17,410,742 (37.44%)
Total number who voted remain - 16,141,241 (34.71%)
Total number who didn't care - 12,948,018 - (27.84%)
That is the result of the first and second EU referendums. Ever since we had the first one, the people who didn't like the result campaigned for a second one to be held. Ever since the second one, the people who didn't like the result have campaigned for a second, second referendum. No-one, it seems, is able to count up to three.
For all of you people, here is a simple aid to adding up.
1 - 2 - 3.
There, it wasn't that hard, was it?
Spot on grumpy!
