THE MOON OF DOOM

Blood Moon
Paddy Power, the Irish firm of bookmakers has been taking bets on when the world will end. They decided to do this after "a bunch of whackos" predicted the end of civilization. Two American religionist preachers, Mark Blitz and John Hagee were claiming that the "Blood Moon" which appeared in the sky on 28 September would trigger the Apocalypse.

You are all too late to place your bet for the 28th September, which was the favourite date at 200/1 or the outsiders 22nd and 24th September at 500/1 each. As you would have lost your money, perhaps it's just as well. Paddy Power claim that they arrived at those odds "after much study of the book of Joel from which the claims are interpreted"

You can still get 250/1 on any date in October so there is still time to get your bet in. They don't explain how you would collect your winnings but even if you could, you would have to spend them pretty dammed quick.

To be honest, I haven't been able to find where to place my bet on their website so perhaps they have decided not to tempt fate. Who knows?

Shown below is a hilarious send up of Pastor John Hagee's famous prediction.
